Runescape A Simple Farming Guide

STARTING LOCATIONS! :)
Allotments (includes herb and flowers)

South Falador
Catherby
North Ardougne
Port Phasmatys

I guess you’re starting farming. I will provide these basic steps to farm correctly.

1. Weed patch with rake
2. Use compost on patch (Supercompost is even better!)
3. Use seeds with patch
4. Water patch
5. Go to another patch, don’t hang around unless you desperately need it to live.

Minigames: Sorceress Garden and Vinesweeper may be used for lvls 1-20.

Other patches (These require quests for use):
Herb patch - Troll Stronghold (My Arm’s Big Adventure)
1 Allotment - Harmony (Great Brain Robbery)
Flower patch - West Wild Ruins (Spirit of Summer)

============================================================
Lvl 1-6

The only thing you can plant right now are potatoes. So gather 3 potato seeds for each allotment you wish to farm and your basic farming tools. I suggest going to at least 3 of the allotments (listed above) so you can gain more xp. Remember, you DO NOT have to watch your crops. Use your time wisely.

At level 2, you can plant marigolds which I suggest farming since it’ll be extra xp and they fetch a good price at the GE.

At level 5, you can plant onions though if you wish to stick with potatoes it’s perfectly fine.

YOU CAN IGNORE HOPS, but it’s your choice.

You may want to make use of sacks (from farming shops) to store vegetables as you run around RS.

============================================================
Lvl 7-11

Right now, you’re farming either potatoes or onions and marigolds.

At level 7, move to cabbage. Remember 3 per allotment patch and don’t forget to use compost.

You can add herbs to your routine at lvl 9 as you finally get to farm herbs!!!….though it’s only guams. It’s still xp, so plant them when you plant your allotments and flowers. You should also plant roasemary at lvl 11 to help your cabbage, though if you’re in search of money, stick to marigolds.

Again, YOU CAN IGNORE HOPS but you can choose.
============================================================
Lvl 12-19

Ah, level 12, you finally get to plant tomatoes! So plant these as your alloments and go back to marigolds. Use baskets so you can store these fruits easily. Continue farming the best herb you can farm.

YOU CAN IGNORE HOPS, though it’s still acceptable xp.

ACORNS!
You’ve reached the point where you can plant trees. These seeds are very cheap and a good source of xp so I suggest planting these in all 5 tree patches (Lumbridge, Falador, Varrock, Taverley, Gnome Stronghold) I will provide a tree route to use though you can of course formulate your own.

Remember to plant your seed in a plant pot first and water it. When it becomes a sapling you can plant it.

TREE PATCH LOCATIONS!!! :P
Falador Park
Taverley
Varrock Palace Courtyard
Gnome Tree Stronghold (near bank)
Lumbridge (west of castle)

=============
TREE ROUTE
=============
(requires use of gnome gliders)

Remember you can make your own route to best fit you, because if the route doesn’t fit you…ummm….you get the point.

1. Teleport to Varrock, plant your sapling at the patch in the Palace Courtyard.
2. Teleport to Falador. Plant your sapling at the park.
3. Run to Taverley. Plant your sapling at the patch there.
4. Home Teleport to Lumbridge. Plant your sapling at the patch near the back of the castle.
5. Run to Al-Kharid or use a glory or a duelling ring and take the gnome glider to the Gnome Stronghold. Plant your tree at the tree patch outside of the Grand tree.
============================================================
Lvl 20-30

Not much to say here. Plant sweetcorn now in your allotments and plant your best herbs and flowers. Continue planting acorns and plant willows if your budget can handle it at lvl 30.

Wildblood hops provide good xp at lvl 28, though can be skipped if wanted.
============================================================

This is where it starts to seperate between the rich and the poor. Farming after all is an extremely expensive skill if you wish to do it quickly. From this point on, I will seperate the guide between the POOR, MIDDLE CLASS, and the RICH.
============================================================
Lvl 31-44

POOR (don’t feel ashamed to put yourself in this category)

Plant strawberry seeds in your allotments now. Continue planting marigolds.

YOU CAN NOW PLANT RANARR AT LVL 32! This is a great source of money and I encourage everybody to farm this. USE SUPERCOMPOST!!!

Since willow seeds are fairly cheap now, you should plant them too.

Plant FRUIT TREES at lvl 33 with banana trees. Once you reach level 39, plant orange trees. At level 42, curry trees. These seeds are fairly cheap as well.
Plant fruit trees just like you would regular wood trees.

I will provide my own fruit tree route though you can always use your own.

MIDDLE CLASS

Plant strawberry seeds in your allotments now. Continue planting marigolds.

YOU CAN NOW PLANT RANARR AT LVL 32! This is a great source of money and I encourage everybody to farm this. USE SUPERCOMPOST!!!

Willows at level 30 is the way to go. A step up from acorns.

Plant FRUIT TREES at lvl 33 with banana trees. Once you reach level 39, plant orange trees. Plant curry trees at lvl 42.
Plant fruit trees just like you would regular wood trees.

I will provide my own fruit tree route though you can always use your own.

RICH

Look above at the middle class, since they are the same for both classes.

FRUIT TREE ROUTE
(requires use of gnome spirit trees and gnome gliders)

1. Plant your sapling at Catherby.
2. Charter a ship to Brimhaven and plant your fruit tree there.
3. Use duelling ring and teleport to Duel Arena. Use gnome glider in Al-Kharid to fly to the Grand Tree. Plant the sapling.
4. Spirit tree to Gnome Tree Stronghold. Exit the maze and plant your sapling at the patch.
5. Go to Lletya and plant. Requires Roving Elves.

This is where I believe the POOR class won’t advance quickly enough, though don’t stop farming. It may be slow but you’ll still level. Continue using the routine you’ve done before. From this point on I will only be doing MIDDLE CLASS and RICH.

============================================================
Lvl 45-56

MIDDLE CLASS

Plant watermelons at lvl 47. Continue planting either limpwurts or marigolds in your flower patches. Plant your best herb or just stick with ranarr.

AT LEVEL 45 YOU CAN PLANT MAPLES. Continue planting willows and maples when you can.

Plant curry seeds until lvl 51. At level 51 you can plant pineapple trees.

USE SUPERCOMPOST!!!!!!!!!

IGNORE HOPS

At level 48, you should start planting BUSHES. Plant jangerberries at at least 3 of the bush patches. I will provide my own bush route though of course you don’t have to use it.

Lvl 57-71

===============
MIDDLE CLASS
===============

Continue planting watermelons and flowers.

PLANT SNAPDRAGON AT LEVEL 62!
Extremely good income!

Continue planting pineapple trees at fruit tree patches and plant papaya trees sparsely.

Continue planting willows and maples if you can. I don’t suggest yews for this class as it is a major wallet burner. Lower trees are still good xp though they aren’t as fast.

Plant WHITEBERRIES at lvl 59 and POISON IVY at lvl 70. Some people may not have time to plant bushes, though they are pretty good xp in the long run.

============
RICH
============

Continue planting watermelons and flowers.
Optional: You may want to abandon allotments and flowers since you’re gaining so much xp from trees.

Plant papaya trees at lvl 57!
Plant palm trees at lvl 68!

Continue planting willows until lvl 60.
PLANT YEWS at lvl 60!

Plant WHITEBERRIES at lvl 59 and POISON IVY at lvl 70. Some people may not have time to plant bushes, though they are pretty good xp in the long run. Though if your planting those really expensive seeds and don’t feel like bothering with bushes, it’s your decision.

IGNORE HOPS

Lvl 72-99

The final stretch!!! And it’s very very very long too. But it’s not that complicated, it just takes a lot of time and patience.

==============
MIDDLE CLASS
==============

Things to add to your routine:

Any SPECIAL crops you may want to do. These can add some nice daily xp while your trees grow. Cactus spines are really good for quick money.

PLANT CAL*UATS AT LEVEL 72!!!
Amazing amount of xp. Now you can have a nearby farmer watch over it so take advantage of it. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

If you are lucky to find Spirit tree seeds in your birds’ nest, plant it! There’s really nothing else you can do with it since you can’t sell it.

That’s it, add it to your routine of allotments and trees and you will someday be a master farmer :)

Things to add to your routine:

Special crops like cactus can give you a few more gp and xp.

PLANT CAL*UATS AT LEVEL 72!!!
Amazing amount of xp. Now you really should pay the farmer for this, even though you might think it a hassle and you can afford lost seeds. But the more dead plants, the slower the xp.

Plant YEWS!
And if you really want to throw your money away, plant MAGIC TREES!

Plant SPIRIT TREES! Although this is untradeable, you can still find some in nests, especially from your kingdom.

Add this to your routine and you’ve mastered farming :)

============================================================
YOU’VE MASTERED THE ULTIMATE SKILL OF FARMING AND YOU ARE ONE AMONG FEW TO DISPLAY THE MAGNIFICENT FARMING CAPE!!!
============================================================

99 and beyond…..

Getting 99 doesn’t mean you have to just stop. Farming is a peaceful skill and tests your patience, plus it’s rather fun! So continue planting (except you don’t have to spend much money anymore).

Once you reach this level, you’re free! Here’s what you do:
You farm anything you want to farm….
And experiment to your heart’s content. :

Quests to do that will greatly help your farming, either directly or indirectly:

Fairytale Part 1: gives you access to fairy rings, and the Farmer’s best friend, the magic secateurs (they improve your harvest when you wield them)

Tree Gnome Village and The Grand Tree: Gives you access to the gnome gliders and Spirit Trees

Ghosts Ahoy!: Gives you the Ectophial to teleport to Port Phasmatys with.

Enlightened Journey: Gives you access to the balloons for teleporting, very handy!

Back to My Roots: A real pain to do, but gives you access to the Jade Vine patch in Ardougne, which offers a heavy hit of daily 1500 Farming xp and 2500 Slayer xp.

Throne of Miscellania and Royal Trouble: The Miscellanian kingdom is a great way to get a guaranteed 8 nests a day, which a chance of getting some really great seeds. Costs less to keep it up than paying for tree seeds in the GE.

Garden of Tranquility: this one isn’t necessary, but it gives a nice reward of Farming xp, so do it if you wish.
